Writing Bureau

Upcycling an old writing bureau. It was damaged and in need of a new lease of life. By stripping it and combining paint, oil and polish, it got just that. See the photos for more details.

Part way through sanding
Part way through sanding the drawers. The veneer was very thin so I had to be careful not to go through and give myself even more work!
Prepped Drawers
The three drawers sanded back and some damage to the veneer filled with a two part filler.
Prepped for painting
One of the drawers prepped for painting - the arrows are to make sure I painted the right section! I used Little Greene paints for this.
Drying the paint
Using a hair dryer in between coats to speed up the process - thin coats build up the protection and also dry more quickly.
Touching In
Touching in some of the filled veneer to match the existing veneer. Patience is key!
Three painted drawers
Three of the drawers painted with the design and oiled in between to highlight the grain of the wood. I chose the lines to mirror this grain
