Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes. Simply send me a few clear photographs of your furniture along with its dimensions and a brief description of the work you'd like carried out. I'll provide a free, no-obligation estimate.
What types of furniture do you restore?
I restore a wide range of wooden furniture, including dining tables, chairs, sideboards, cabinets, dressers, desks, coffee tables, bookcases, wardrobes and antique pieces. If you're unsure whether your item can be restored, just get in touch.
Can damaged furniture be repaired?
In many cases, yes. Loose joints, broken legs, veneer damage, scratches, dents, water marks and general wear can often be repaired or significantly improved. I'll always assess each piece individually and advise on the best course of action.
Do you work on antique furniture?
Absolutely. Every antique piece is treated with care and respect for its history. Where appropriate, traditional restoration techniques and sympathetic repairs are used to preserve the character and value of the furniture.
Do you offer painted finishes as well as natural wood?
Yes. Whether you're looking for a natural wood finish, staining, oiling, waxing, lacquer, or a painted makeover, I can help create a finish that suits your style while respecting the furniture.
How long does furniture restoration take?
Timescales vary depending on the size of the piece and the amount of work required. Small repairs may only take a few days, while full restorations can take several weeks. I'll provide an estimated completion time when quoting.
Do you collect and deliver furniture?
Yes. Collection and delivery can be arranged for customers in Herefordshire and the surrounding areas. Please ask when requesting a quote.
Is my furniture insured while it's in your care?
Yes. Your furniture is fully insured while it is in my workshop, giving you peace of mind throughout the restoration process.
Is restoration better than buying new furniture?
Often, yes. Quality older furniture is frequently made from solid timber and built to last. Restoration can extend its life for many years while retaining its character, reducing waste and often costing less than replacing it with similar-quality furniture.
Can you colour match an existing finish?
In most cases, yes. I aim to match existing stains and finishes as closely as possible, although slight variations can occur due to the age and natural characteristics of the wood.
How do I care for my restored furniture?
I'll provide advice specific to your piece, but generally it's best to avoid excessive heat, direct sunlight and standing water. Regular dusting and occasional maintenance with suitable products will help keep it looking its best.
What areas do you cover?
Based in Herefordshire, I work with customers throughout the surrounding counties. If you're further afield, please get in touch and I'll be happy to discuss your project.
Can you repair furniture that has sentimental value?
Absolutely. Some of the most rewarding projects involve family heirlooms and treasured pieces. I understand how important these items are and take great care to preserve both their appearance and their story.
